JS EXPERIENCES

Seignosse, France

“I would like to be able to give participants a reason to continue this approach in their daily lives”

— Johanne Defay

This September we are pleased to offer the first edition of
Js Experiences following on from the success of the 2020, 2021 & 2022 editions of Women On Waves

We have 21 spots for anyone, of any skill level, who would like to take the opportunity to explore and evolve the physical and mental aspects of their lives.

We offer a weekend (3 nights) that will focus on these three core topics

Mindset

Holistic Training

Nutrition

  • As a professional athlete, the mental side has a big role in my performance. But even since a young age I have been questioning myself and wanted to understand my emotions. I have started to learn meditation with my mum now and I started yoga around 16 years old as a complementary to my surfing. I was looking for something to enhance my flexibility and I liked the introspection on your body & soul. To go even further, when I qualified for the world tour in 2013, I decided to train with a mental coach. I have loved to learn more about the mechanisms & reactions that my brain, soul, and body could have. That was the first time where I kinda stepped back and looked at myself for real. Having a clear vision of yourself, who you are, and what you want is the most important part for me.

  • My approach to nutrition is that it should support and fuel the body based on its individual needs at any given moment to be able to perform at its peak or recover in its most efficient way. Sometimes we are more driven by what we “should” or “shouldn’t” eat but also because we often don’t know what and WHY! During this weekend you will learn the main pillars of “active food” which are based on intuition and knowledge and are in alignment with the sports and training program that Simon and Johanne have specifically developed for the “JS EXPERIENCES” weekend. You will also learn how to incorporate some tips and recipe ideas into your daily life.

  • Holistic just sums up my vision of all the above. I think there is a holistic way to see and do everything. Some examples for me of having a more holistic approach to my training were; building a training schedule around my periods with my coach, trying to adapt my food, taking into consideration my personal life and how I am doing, and constantly checking my energy level, and then adapting. But also, having different types of training: the foundations like running, biking, hiking, and swimming. Then training at the gym: powerlifting, mobility, CrossFit, cross training, etc. Then yoga and stretching. Then skateboarding, paddleboarding, etc.

Js Experiences will be an immersive journey where we aim to challenge participants to take themselves out of their comfort zones in an effort to create new areas of growth and personal development. We have extended the number of participants as we want to create a space and environment for individuals to feel safe and empowered to grow individually and collectively and we have extended the program to help inspire participants to progress in their personal routine.

With this weekend, I would like to be able to give people a reason to continue this approach in their daily lives. There is a fine line between listening to yourself and pushing yourself to progress - it is often within these fine lines that I play in training. And when I prove to myself that I can do it, I feel confident at this maximum level! If I accompany that with a good meal, healthy relationships, and a moment for me on my mat, that's when I feel ready to perform or simply feel the best in my body. Until late in my career, I didn't have a personal trainer but when I started focusing on specific training and someone who considered the holistic aspect of my entity, that's when I started to hatch and go from junior to professional. So I want to share that, self-learning in different ways. It's not something you learn during a weekend, but for life, and if I could pass on this motivation, this desire, this hope, then it’s already worth it.

A Little Taste of What to Expect –

A Little Taste of What to Expect –

I really felt myself grow over the course of the weekend. Being in that nurturing environment really helped me to push my limits and I am amazed at what I was capable of achieving.
