MARGARET RIVER #4
The 4th round of the World Tour took place at the beginning of May in Margaret River on the Australian west coast. This spot is always difficult to surf and this year we were spoiled with solid conditions!
I managed my 1st round rather well with a top score of 7.17 which took me to safety and sent me directly to the 3rd round. I found the Japanese wild card Amuro Tsuzuki (replacing injured Lakey Peterson) for this 3rd round, who had never surfed this spot…so the series quickly turned to my advantage. In the quarterfinals, I found the local Bronte Macaulay. This series will be remembered for a long time because we both achieve the same total, 11.83 points. Benefiting from a better wave (6.83 against 6.50), Bronte wins. In such a tight series, one detail nevertheless caught my coach's attention: a judge put the same mark (6.00) on my best wave (6.50) and on my back up (5.33) this which is odd considering they are two very different waves. When we know that the series is played to the hundredth of a point, I would have liked a proper explanation from the Chief Judge who was not able to really convince me. So I finished 5th in the event.
