NEWCASTLE #2

The Tour resumed last week after a complicated first stage in December in Maui, on the spot of Newcastle in Australia, north of Sydney.

Previously, Newcastle was a WQS 6000 competition that I did every start of the season before starting the WCT. I won it in 2017 and also did some early laps there. The conditions can be very difficult but also amazing! The spot changes a lot and quite quickly. This year, we weren't spoiled for the first laps with very average waves, even downright too small… Fortunately, the conditions were much better in the quarters. I bowed to Carissa Moore who made a series that will be remembered! While I was leading from the start with a good wave at 7.50 points, she started a wave without potential in the 20th minute and flew away…then landed! His look is mind-blowing; it's the first time she's done it in competition and she's been rewarded with a logical 9.90. Women's surfing has just entered a new era. I can only congratulate Carissa for this feat and even if I try to come back to the score, it's almost mission impossible.

I am happy with my result (5th) and the way I lost. Carissa was really a cut above even though I surfed well. I can't wait for the Narabeen competition (3rd stage) to start on Friday (April 16) to show off my surfing
